Our Stories: 19 Rosemari Roast (Walk in the Woods LLC)

Rosemari Roast is the owner and caretaker of Walk in the Woods LLC which is located at the exciting Whiting Mills in Winsted, Connecticut.

She is an artist, teacher, a certified Herbalist and Reiki Master and a member of the Organic Farmers Association and holds many other designations. I had the pleasure of interviewing Rosemari for an upcoming Nutmeg Chatter article. Generous with her opportunities, Rosemari has supported other artists (I first met her at Karen Rossi’s studio during a Torrington Arts Walk) and she opened up her own studio to two other artists during the Open House/Block Party recently.

For the artwork I was inspired to create a “walk in the woods’ (that was clear) but wanted to make it extra special.

So I took inspiration from Walden Pond. Rosemari is depicted walking to Walden Pond. I could have done more of a portrait but in meeting Rosemari, I felt as if she would wish to have nature accentuated more than herself.

This piece  was created in an impressionistic style. I created this without using the ink first and then only used ink for the words and to darken the figure. There are three different greens used, three different blues, with yellow, red, gray and white highlights.

The quote is from Thoreau who said

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” (shared from Good Reads)
